Lesson One: Choosing Materials
and Taking Your Measurements
We will cover
types of material appropriate for these gowns, yardage
requirements for the pattern, taking correct measurements
and making your master pattern.
Lesson Two: Fabric Sources
Lesson will involve a trip to a fabric
store to choose your fabrics and trims.
Lesson Three: Fitting a Toile and Cutting Out Your
Gown
We will make a bodice
mock-up for a try-on, fitting, adjusting, and making
sure everything is ready before you cut out your final
bodice.
Lesson Four: Constructing the Bodice and Sleeves
Lesson will cover steps one and two in the gown pattern
instructions, supplying techniques and tricks for giving
the bodice a finely tailored look and a good fit. We
will also look at ways to alter sleeves, neckline, etc.
for a unique look.
Lesson Five: Constructing the Skirt and Attaching the
Bodice
Lesson will cover steps three and four in the instructions,
discussing the use of different seam finishing techniques
for a professional and/or historical look as well as
offering guidelines for trying on the nearly completed
gown and checking the fit before finishing.
Lesson Six: Finishing Techniques
and Embellishments
Lesson will cover the final
steps given in the instruction sheet, including techniques
for hand finishing the bodice lining, hemline and sleeves.
Methods of embellishment will also be discussed with
special attention given to neckline, sleeve and hem
treatments.
